In the next week of teaching practice, I
decided to observe math lesson with my MST. I was very interesting
and impressed of how the teacher is managing the class, she had
the ability to control all students and never let them bored from the
class. I noticed the different strategies/ways that she used in teaching which
is made the lesson perfect. First of all, and before she starts the lesson, she
has to make sure that everyone is prepared for the day by giving a pre-test,
remind them of previous learning, discuss at their tables and show them the
information on a poster or anchor chart. Then, she’s asking for whole body
listening; To make sure that everybody is attentive, and then she start to give
the students mathematics questions to solve, by giving each group questions
that depends on their levels, after that she ask them to write the answers on
their small white boards, to keep the class quiet, organized and give
every single girl a chance to show her answer while she’s checking and
observing students. After that, she used “verbal ques, whole body listening,
table 1 is ready, etc.” strategies to get student attention, to keep their
attention and move to the next task. Another thing is, she knows exactly how to
deal with misbehavior, for example she’s using class dojo to take point if they
did something wrong, discuss behavior with the students or referral to social
worker. One more thing, is that the teacher loves to encourage students: She's
using star chart for whole class, and class dojo for individual students,
stickers, special seating, encouraging students to work from where they are,
encouraging everyone to work hard and do their best at their level, not
everyone has to have the right answer on grade level, but everyone has to have
the answer or show the work they are capable of doing. And this is what I
called "The perfect learning style".
