On Monday, November 2, 2015. At the beginning
of the day, I heard that the principal is coming to observe the science class
with my mentor. So, I decided to observe this lesson too, because I’m sure that
the teacher will do her best in this lesson. At the beginning of the class, my
teacher presents a PowerPoint about the moon, she used “Google the word…”
strategy for the new words; The teacher has to say/spell the word three times,
explain the word until the students understand it, show pictures or videos and
then ask the students to say/spell the word. I believe that this is very
important strategy, because it’s teach the students how to spell the new words
and understand them. When the teacher finished presenting the moon PowerPoint
(which was about the shapes of the moon), she asked 7 students to come to her,
she gives each one of them one different name of the shapes of the moon and let
them hold the paper and stay in front of the class so every class can see them,
and then she gives the rest of the students pictures of the different shapes of
the moon, and they have to see which shape of the moon does their picture show,
know the name of the shape and then go to choose which student have that
shape/name, and stand in her group. It was really amazing seeing the girls work
together, help each other and try to do the right thing by standing in the
right place. One thing that I didn’t like about the lesson, is that when the
girls start to move around the class and try to find their place, the class was
very annoying and the teacher find it hard to let them calm down and stop
moving/talking, even if they were finished.
